U.S. Route 101 (US 101) is your main north-south route through San Luis Obispo. It links you south to Santa Barbara and north to Monterey and the Bay Area, so it is the road you will use most often for through traffic and time-sensitive deliveries. California State Route 1 (SR 1), the Pacific Coast Highway, is scenic but is a poor pick for large trucks, especially north of town toward Big Sur where winding lanes and steep grades can slow you down fast. California State Route 227 (SR 227) runs parallel to US 101 on the east side, giving you a local alternative from Arroyo Grande through San Luis Obispo to Edna Valley. If you need to connect to I-5, stay on US 101 north past Paso Robles and take CA-46 East toward Bakersfield. That route crosses productive farm country, so watch for seasonal traffic and slower-moving farm vehicles. If you are lining up 18-wheeler parking, tractor-trailer parking, or semi truck parking, build in extra time and check current traffic updates and road conditions, especially during tourist seasons or adverse weather conditions.
