I-74 corridor parking guide
I-74 runs about 461 miles across five states, giving you a route between the Midwest and Ohio Valley. The highway begins at I-80 in Bettendorf, Iowa, crosses Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, and ends at I-75 just north of downtown Cincinnati. Along the way, it connects Davenport, Peoria, Bloomington, Champaign, Indianapolis, and Cincinnati.
In Illinois, I-74 cuts across the central part of the state from northwest to southeast. Check your hours before Peoria, Bloomington, Champaign, or Danville, with Bettendorf, Davenport, and Moline also on this corridor. In Indiana, the route crosses the central part of the state from west to east. It passes near Crawfordsville, Brownsburg, Indianapolis, Shelbyville, and Greensburg. I-74 was the first interstate to cross Indiana, and it meets I-465 on the west side of Indianapolis. North Carolina has three separate I-74 sections, including areas near Mount Airy, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Kernersville, Asheboro, Rockingham, and Lumberton. Ohio makes up the final section near Cincinnati.
Plan your parking before your HOS runs short. A reserved spot can keep you from hunting after dark or making an illegal stop when your hours are gone. Book hourly or daily for a quick break, or choose multi-day or monthly parking for a longer stay. Winter weather can affect Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and North Carolina at different times. Summer construction can slow the corridor, so check road conditions and leave room in your schedule.
Rules can change at each state line. Check current limits, permitted routes, chain requirements, parking rules, and oversize-load guidance with the Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, and Ohio DOTs. Your ELD and HOS plan should account for those changes before you commit to a stop.
